Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon HD 6850
IntroThe GeForce GTX 550 Ti features core speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1026 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 192 SPUs along with 32 Texture Address Units and 24 Rasterization Operator Units.Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6850, which comes with GPU clock speed of 775 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1000 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 960 SPUs, 48 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

BenchmarksThese are real-world performance benchmarks that were submitted by Hardware Compare users. The scores seen here are the average of all benchmarks submitted for each respective test and hardware.
3DMark Fire Strike Graphics Score
Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthIn theory, the Radeon HD 6850 will be 30% quicker than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti in general, because of its greater data rate. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 6850 is a lot (more or less 29%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)
Pixel RateIf running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6850 is a better choice, but it probably won't make a huge difference. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.

It is very important to remember some games prefer AMD cards while other games prefer NVIDIA. For example the HD6850 plays planetside 2 like a dream on 1080p medium high settings, I have yet to try max settings. But on other games like RIFT you might have a slight performance boost with the 550ti I cannot go into details right now but just my 2 cents. Most of the time poorly desgined mmorpgs like rift or pwi use peoples internet speed more then there gpu. Other games that are well designed like wow and gw2 use your gpu more efficiently.
